Hi! My name is Jackie and I’m a writer.
For as long as I can remember, I have always used writing as a tool to understand the present, work through the past, and hope for the future. I’ve always written essays, but that changed in January 2023. I wrote the poem NEVER BETTER and couldn’t stop after that!
This collection of poetry is both intimately personal and largely relatable. It explores the disappointment and damage that needing a better dad has on a child. Weaving together memories of narcissism, neglect, religious trauma, abuse, abandonment, and the deep ache that comes from not being loved well enough.
It is my hope that by releasing this collection, I am also releasing the barriers that kept my childhood experiences shrouded in secrecy. Having experienced complex trauma for most of my young life, I still often feel trapped by it. Being vulnerable and brave is my way out of it.
